DCNT Programs
Our
programs are
in-school and after-school programs. While the primary focus of DCNT is
the children, the success of the program has allowed us to offer
classes to the parents as well as the educators who teach at the
schools in which we are found.

The In-School Program
Dancing
Classrooms' primary program is the in-school residency. Though an
effective program for teaching social dance, the program provides an
atmosphere where respect
for self and others is the guiding principle in which the students
absorb new understandings and grow. There are six core dances and a few
others used to spice things up.
The Dances Taught
- Foxtrot
- Merengue
- Rumba
- Tango
- Swing
- Waltz
- Line Dances
The After-School Programs
After-School with the Children
With the success experienced
in the in-school residencies, we were asked to continue the education
of the children in after-school programs. This program builds upon the
lessons taught in the in-school residency, reinforces the project's
goals, and extends the dance foundation.
It was from this program that the HEBISD Performance Dance
Team was
formed. They are represented by students from Bellaire, Midway Park and
Shady Brook Elementary Schools.
The Dances Taught
- Cha Cha Cha
- Foxtrot
- Merengue
- Rumba
- Tango
- Two Step
- Salsa
- Swing
- Waltz
- Line Dances
Evening with the Adults
Sparked by the energy and change
exhibited by the children, parents and
educators were interested in the program's dance education as well. For
the adults the lessons are grounded upon the foundation classes
taught in the in-school residency. We ask of the adults the same
courtesy we enforce with the children. Taught at an accelerated pace
(half the time taken for the children),
the adults are taught smartly the same basic dances taught to the
children. Given the success of the group, other actions are possible
within the context of the six basic dances.
In the spring of 2007, we offered the first adult classes.
Shady
Brook Elementary in Bedford hosted the class. Plans are
underway
to expand the number of adult classes.
